Has anybody tried out these glowing collars?

http://www.niton999.co.uk/products.expanded.asp?product=2839&querycategory=Dog-Section&querybrandname=&querysubcategory=Leads-And-Collars&search=&new=&pricedrop=&offer=&pagesize=48&sort=&direction=ASC

(The Nite Dawg from http://www.niton999.co.uk incase the link doesn't work)

I know that the Aurolites can be a pain to get hold of and this looks kind of similar.

Hi Tim

Had never heard of these before your post but they look good. As our Visiglo has just given up the ghost we've decided to try one and ordered it last night - even if it's not as good as an Aurolite, it definitely looks better than a Visiglo. We did a search on the web and found them cheaper at: http://www.theglowcompany.co.uk/acatalog/NIGHT-DAWG-LED-COLLAR.html - collar plus p&p came to just under £19. If you want to wait until we've got ours - very happy to give you an opinion. Some of our team have Aurolites so we can do a direct comparison. Not sure how long delivery will be, but I expect it will be here in 4 to 5 days.

I tried one of these collars but found they were no use on a medium or long coated dog, the hair went over the collar and you couldnt see it. we tried it on a smooth coated collie and it worked a treat.
mine is still in the bottom of my bag gathering bust.

Tim - Just to update - our Nite Dawg arrived in 2 days from the Glow Company, and is really good. We have a Labrador so have no problems with fur hiding the light as Mike mentioned below. Haven't actually been out in total darkness yet but were out at dusk this afternoon and it was pretty bright even then - much better than the Visiglo was in that sort of half-light. I'm not sure it will give quite the "torch-like" effect of an aurolite but you'll certainly have no problem seeing your dog in the dark!
I'd definitely recommend it (particularly as it's much cheaper than an aurolite) - thanks for discovering it!

Mand, I don't think there's any doubt the aurolite is better, but this is a good compromise between that and something like a visiglo. We got it because a) it's cheaper, b) much quicker delivery (2 days) and c) we needed something urgently because our visiglo had died! I've now been out several times in the dark using the collar and it's very bright. It doesn't light up the surrounding area in the same way the aurolite goes and because it's an adjustable collar with a lead attachment there is a 2 inch or so section which doesn't light up.

The one we got says it's got a 150 hour battery life and can be seen from 100 feet. The one on the niton999 website which Tim mentions below must be different because that says it's a 100,000 hour battery life and 1000 feet visibility! They are both called the Nite Dawg collar though!?

Tony will probably get his before we are back at training with the hormonal one so you'll probably see one soon to compare. If not, we'll bring it next time we are at training.
