26 miles in my shoes

Postby niki » Wed Apr 13, 2011 9:35 pm

I was diagnosed with MS in 2003 and every year since I have found a challenge to complete.

This year I will be participating in a 26 mile Trekathon on 30th July in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Daryl will as ever be right by my side egging me on and dragging me to the finish. [laugh]
We will be starting at Cheddar and walking through some beautiful villages finishing at Glastonbury Tor. Daryl believes that we should be able to finish thin in 8 to 10 hours. I just hope that I can live up to his expectations. [happy]

Just last week our fantastic orange MS T-shirts arrived, which will be worn proudly on the day of our Trekathon. I have managed to set up a fundraising webpage so people can sponsor us online too! This can be found here http://beatms.mssociety.org.uk/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=1389&erid=186337&frsid=4715 I have set a target of raising £200 between us.

All we ask is that you please sponsor us whatever you can afford and I will do all of the hard work and get all the blisters and muscle spasms ably assisted by my amazing hubby who will drag me through. We will also take the essential before and after shots along with some of the best scenery we can find.

Obviously the more we raise the more pictures we will take! [rolleyes]
Daryl and I both thank you all in advance for any donation you can make to our extremely worthwhile cause.

Roll on 30th July! In the meantime the dogs and I have some walking to get done!

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has been so generous so far!

We now have 3 weeks left til our Trekathon! Have now managed to get over my relapse and although I won't be quite there in time for the walk I am going to try my hardest and do not plan on giving up half way!

Daryl and I will be posting updates and pictures on facebook and twitter all day letting people know our progress. Still hoping to cpmplete it in 10 hours but even if it takes longer as long as I finish I won't mind.

So if you can spare a bit of change and sponsor Daryl and I both of us and the MS Society will be extremely grateful!!!! http://beatms.mssociety.org.uk/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=1389&erid=186337&frsid=4715

Just 5 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! [blink] [blink] [blink]

Slight concern when the Truck died whilst in Devon (a whole other story along the lines of Roland and Sue scale!) and threaten the whole thing but then Polly came to our rescue [laugh] and is dog sitting so we can take the car.

Walks planned this week to get us warmed up so fingers crossed and off to buy good socks. The link above is still available for those who would like to sponsor or just send Daryl or I a message.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us so far it is greatly appreciated and kept me motivated [laugh]

THANK YOU EVERYONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we managed it! It took 10 and a half hours to complete which wasn't bad going at all! The first half was HELL!!! We went up and down the Mendips 3 or 4 times and some bits were so steep they were almost vertical. Luckily the second half was alot flatter with only 1 hill until the end. So this section was much easier apart from Daryl and I being accosted by an angry landowner who didn't know the walk was comiing over his land and was not too happy! Trust it to be us that he approached though! The very final hurdle was to climb up to the finish line at the top of Glastonbury Tor! I believe it was pure Adrenalin that got me to the top. But we did it!

I want to say a HUGE thanks to everyone who followed and commented on Facebook as this really did help me make it through. Especially when I hit my physical and emotional brick wall!

We still have money heading our way but so far we have raised well over £500 which is amazing and I was only expecting £200!!!

SO THANKS GUYS it means alot [biggrin]

Well done Niki.
That's very impressive.
