POLICE combed the mudflats and grassy banks of Whitewall Creek in Strood on Friday.

The operation was a continuation of a search and rescue launched the previous day after reports of a bag found in the River Medway.

A sniffer dog was brought in. Later in the afternoon a police helicopter and lifeboat scoured the River Medway but both searches revealed nothing.

A spokesman for Kent Police said the operation was not linked to the disappearance of missing London man Christopher Lawless.

The 24-year old disappeared nearly a month ago after a night out at Amadeus nightclub in Medway Valley Park, Strood.

A search operation involving the fire service, coastguards and an RAF helicopter was also launched on Wednesday after reports of a body in the river but again nothing was found.
