A WOMAN who fell and injured her leg while hiking in the Comeragh Mountains had to be rescued by the South East Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) on Saturday night.

The woman and her husband were walking in Tickincor Woods, above Clonmel, when the incident occurred at around 6.30pm.

She was unable to walk and the nearest road was more than 30 minutes walk away.

SEMRA were dispatched to the scene at around 9.30pm and, working alongside a Lifeline ambulance crew, reached the couple in a mountain rescue four-wheel drive.

Two teenage mountain bikers had come across the injured woman and helped direct rescue teams to the accident site.

The woman received first-aid at the scene before being transferred to a waiting ambulance.

She is expected to make a full recovery.

SEMRA wished to thank all involved in the rescue, including team members, ambulance crew, the Search and Rescue Dog Association and the two teenage mountain bikers.
