A MISCALCULATION over how long a walk would take saw two walkers become lost on Kinder Scout in wet and windy weather on Saturday night.

Members of Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams and a Search and Rescue Dog located the two 25-year-old men from Doncaster. They were very wet and cold, and were given a warm drink and additional dry clothing before being escorted back to Edale Village.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton Team Leader said: "These two guys had been following a route described in a magazine, they had prepared reasonably well in terms of equipment; they had torches and maps.

"However, they were inexperienced and their timings were underestimated. You need to allow for a margin of error in open country especially in the weather conditions which were pertaining at the time, heavy rain, poor visibility and very windy."

* A 54-YEAR-OLD man was flown to hospital after he slipped on a steep hillside injuring his leg while walking in the Castleton area on Monday afternoon.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Edale MRT Snatch Squad helped carry him 500 metres to a waiting helicopter.

* Buxton, Edale and Glossop Mountain Rescue Teams battled rain, hailstone and thunder and lightning to carry a 39-year-old Dronfield woman more than a kilometre to a waiting ambulance on Wednesday afternoon.

She had slipped on wet ground and sustained a lower leg injury, while walking to the east of Ladybower Reservoir.
