A man found a body Thursday night in a Goodhue County recreation area as he was tapping trees for sap.
The Goodhue County sheriff's office said that the body, likely of a 6-foot-tall white man, had been in the woods about 200 feet off the Hay Creek Recreation Trail for at least six months.
The tree tapper told authorities that he had been in the same area a couple weeks before and had seen something covered in snow, but assumed it was a deer carcass. The recent snowmelt revealed clothing and the body.
The sheriff's office is still investigating. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the regional coroner's office are assisting. A search dog from the Minnesota Search and Rescue Dog Association will be used to search the area for evidence.
