Solo training exercises

Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:34 am

Hi all,

Way down under here in little old godzone, search dog handlers are few and far between. There are only two main training groups in the North Island and the closest of the two is 4 hours drive away.

There are a couple of handlers locally but two are trackers and the other one is flogging a dead horse and has the timing of a $20 Aisian Rolex. Three of us all work shifts making it hard to get together for training.

My question is... yes I do have a point to this... does any one know of any training areas that can be done without a physical subject.

We have been working on drive etc which is easily done without a second person but that is only good for so long.

Im figuring the answer is no but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Cheers
KC

We sometimes use dummies/manikins wearing smelly clothing for the dog to find, however the only problem with this is that you obviously can't be told that the dog has found, so this must be rock solid first.

Victim Recovery work can be done without a second person as we use dead pig.....

The other thing to do is to coerce friends, family, other dog walkers to hide for you......
