Hi from South Australia

Postby James Bennett » Mon Sep 29, 2014 4:13 am

Hi Guys,
My name is James
saw the website and thought I would join up.

I am Living in South Australia, I volunteer with a Emergency Service, and I am currently working with a few people to set up a Search and Rescue Dog team.
Our team currently consist's of about 9 members and 9 Canines, we are a relatively new team with 2 members (including myself) that are undertaking a fairly intense but fun, year long course in canine behaviour and training program.

We have 5 members and canines that are on re-finds and are waiting to be assessed, with the remaining 4 still undergoing training.

The reason I found this site is due the the forums regarding Cadaver searches and Cadaver scent's, something that I plan on starting a training program for within the next 12 months.

oh and my partner in this quest is Delta, a 16 week old Long haired Weimaraner.

Hi James
Welcome to the forum. I'm a member of Berkshire Search & Rescue Dogs (the hosts of this forum). We've been around since 2002 so there is quite a lot of experience and knowledge among our members. Feel free to ask any questions!
We don't actually have any cadaver dogs in training although we do have a drowned victim trainee, training to work from boats.
Are you currently training air scenting? It sounds like you are progressing well!
Quite rare to hear of a long-haired Weimie, let alone one who is training in SAR! One of our members has one but not in training.
The Forum has been a bit quiet recently so it's nice to have some new people on board.
Good luck and keep us informed!

Hi Judith,
Thank you for the welcome,
Yes we are currently training Air scent,
the Cadaver section of it will be from boat also, and a lot of work ahead of us, (as the cadaver part is to help find submerged victims) so a lot of working out speed of river, depth, range and coutures bends and so forth of the river to work out the location from Scent to Body.

I am looking forward to asking a heap of questions and getting to know every one =)

Hello James

Welcome to the Forum - I'm sure you will find lots of answers on here already! It took me weeks to wade through as much as I could when I first joined, and I still find 'new' things from time to time...

We're a helpful, friendly bunch so ask away! And I'm sure we can also learn from you so do share with us the progress you make in your training!

Best wishes
Sally
