Hi Lew

Which team are you looking to join?

There are quite a few teams represented here.

I would guess its either Berkshire , Surrey or Hampshire....

In which case I can probably answer most of your questions...

Firstly, welcome to the forum! The forum is used by people all of the world, but predominantly from the UK.

We don't have any Military Dog Handlers in the team, however the experience of the team is varied as well as the background of some of the dogs.

Regarding vet care, we are sponsored by Moor Cottage Vets in Bracknell who provide a good price to our members who are registered with them.

Quite a few of our members are employed within the emergency services and we are therefore used to members not being able to make it down every week. We do have a minimum membership attendance requirement, but if you think that its going to be difficult to maintain you can speak to the Membership Secretary.

With regard to when to come down and what to bring, you need to talk to Mel, the membership Secretary as she co-ordinates these things - her email address is membership@k9-sar.com

Hopefully we will see you soon.

If you have any other questions either about Berkshire or Search and Rescue in general, please feel free to post it here.

We have permission to use certain areas as others are restricted due to nesting birds etc. but the areas that we use we tend to be able to go where we like.

In your own time, as long as the land is private and you have permission, or public access but you abide by local bye laws you should be OK to train anywhere.

not been on the site for some time, i am ex RAVC 85-95 and would recommend going out working with search and rescue dogs even if you dont train one, you will learn so much that you can then use in training army dogs, i was at Buller from 90 - 93 and did a lot with civvie groups, learnt loads. having met with a few of the lowland search dog teams all i will say is get out there and enjoy your self their not that bad for civvies.
