Hi all Iam Will I own 3 German Shepherds Ben my old Security protection dog who was my partner for many years and he is now retired and looks very old which is sad [sad] I also have Max who was Bens replacment which I recued from an abused lifestyle, He is very soft but make a fantastic security dog as he tracks and searches very well, if any one could point us in the right direction we could train hard and make a fantastic resacue team [biggrin] so any help would be greatly recieved, I have a 2 year old bitch called Star also a rescued 6 months ago from a family which never walked her beat her and starved her, she now has gained much more confidence living a proper dogs life and gaining respect form the cats in our house who do run the dogs, Our home is very busy and our early 5:30 walks and night time call outs [ninja] its hard work but fun please please send any information to get me started heading in the right direction for a fantastic rescue organisation, many thanks will

Hi Will and welcome to the forum.

There is a huge wealth of knowledge on here from all of the world in many disciplines, so please ask questions as people are only too willing to offer advice!

What type of search dog work are you looking to do?

Where are you based?

Hi Daryl thankyou for your reply, Iam used to the night time call outs response for searches of building sites I have done immigrant searches on large container ships and love the thrill of watching the dog pick that sent up and were off, as I am very new to this I have not yet found which the path to take, this is the work I enjoy so if there is a way to stay in this field would be fantastic for starters,I have just watched the video clip of the dog being airlifted to the helicopter and I think Max would feel a little bit worried [unsure] with that so maybe a few years before we get to that standard ha [laugh] I now live in Pewsey Wiltshire lots of rural villages, I spent the winter on the estate putting fences up replacing that awfull barbed wire for stock fence and the amount of very old people I saw battiling the extreme weather horizontal rain snow ice bombs anything for a morning walk made me very concerned and wondered what would happen if they fell or tripped so I started by making the styles more old people and dog walker friendly, Is there a local training group or somwhere I can get an information/application pack?

Hi Will

There is a Lowland foot search team that looks for lost or missing vulnerable people on behalf of Wiltshire Police.

When they need dogs they call in us (Berkshire Search & Rescue Dogs, Lowland Search Dogs Sussex and Lowland Search Dogs - Southern).

If this is the sort of thing that you are looking to do, you are more than welcome to see us train and maybe join in. Have a look at our website http://k9-sar.com
