Some advice please...

Wed Feb 18, 2009 12:53 pm

Guinness's VR training is going really well!! However I am having a few minor problems....

...Problem 1 - Guinness will not stare at the HR for long, he will take me in, will look at it but wont actually stare. He looks straight for his reward! He will look at me for his ball despite me throwing the ball near to the HR. Even when we used a remote device to reward the dog, after the first go, he would look at the HR and then straight up at the remote ball launcher.

Is this a problem? When he takes me in I can find the HR with no searching on my part, but he doesn't constantly point at it....

...Problem 2 - Guinness has started eating any small pieces that he finds - he has only done this twice and only recently. I have put some larger pieces out and have corrected him when he has gont to touch but I'm concerned that he thinks he is being corrected for finding it.

Any advice?

For the second part how about letting Guinness go through the find right up to the point that he is mouth open and just about to start snacking, then correct him?

That way he knows he can find, but not eat.

Just a suggestion.

Thats what I'm doing, I only neede to correct him twice and everything seemed OK for the rest of that session - just wanted to make sure I wasn't undoing any hard work that I had started... [dry]
