Appreciate this is an old thread but I thought it would be worth updating in the light of my experince of the last 24hrs.....

More Than's underwriters have confirmed they do not cover SAR - No suprise
AXA turned me down flat
Sainsburys turned me down flat

Animal Friends have agreed to cover with a standard policy on the understanding this is 'Lowland SAR' - They have agreed to put it in writing, as soon as I have that I'll update with the contact details of the person who dealt with it.

From an inhouse point of view (working with Pet Insurance) they don't have a very good reputation.

They are very good at avoiding paying out!

My advice - stay clear of them.

(and im not just saying that cos theyre not the company i work for! we dont insure SAR dogs either, despite my best efforts!)
Pol :D

why take life seriously ..it's not permenant

Another update, with some good news, eventually !

AFI eventually got back to me and there was a but, they would not provide Public Liability Insurance at all.

However having consulted with the all knowing Insurance oracle that is Polly I contacted 'Protect your Bubble'. They confirmed that they did not exclude working dogs and were happy to cover Lowland SAR. I received the following by email;

'We would offer cover for both of your pets as we make no exclusion for working dogs. However, as with all claims we aren’t able to confirm or guarantee cover for any conditions prior to a claim being submitted. We would cover them in the same way that we would cover a dog who was a pet 100% of the time but we can’t guarantee that we can give any additional cover for them if an incident was to occur whilst they were working.'

I reckon that's as close as I@m going to get !
