Postby Pete » Sun Apr 06, 2008 8:28 pm

Berkshire Search & Rescue Dogs, Lowland Search Dogs Sussex & Southern were called out in the search for 2 missing teenagers in the Marlborough area of Wiltshire.

The area consisted of 3000 acres of forestry and with temperatures falling rapidly 4 dog teams were deployed to assist Wiltshire Search & Rescue (ALSAR).

The missing teens were found the next day in Marlborough town centre and had been avoiding detection by search teams by moving around the search area, dispite loudhailer messages being transmitted from Wiltshire Police force helicopter.

Hunt in Marlborough for two missing teenagers

Police are still searching Savernake Forest, Marlborough for two teenagers who went missing yesterday.

The Wiltshire police helicopter was brought in to help in a search for two missing Swindon teenagers on Saturday evening.

The search continues today (Sunday) with the help of members of WILSAR, the Wiltshire search and rescue group that has dogs specially trained for finding people lost in difficult terrain.

Yesterday officers were hampered by darkness as they searched the forest after nightfall.

The search was launched at 9.45 pm following reports that the 15 year old girl and 18 year old male were missing from Swindon.

Police said the girl had taken a sleeping bag and it was possible the pair were camping.

As the temperatures plummeted to below freezing last night police became increasingly concerned for the teenagers.

Officers were able to establish from a mobile phone company that the young man's phone had been used earlier in the day within 3,700 metres of the Marlborough transmitter at Forest Hill.

Police became concerned that the couple might be camping in the forest, although they established they were not at the authorised camp site at Postern Hill.

The police helicopter was brought in and used its loudhailer to appeal to the couple to make contact with their families.

Officers also searched roads in the forest looking for a tent.

Today one of the search team said it was not even confirmed that the missing pair had a tent although they knew the 15 year old had taken a sleeping bag with her.

The officer said: "They could be anywhere. They could have stopped in Marlborough and made the phone call that was traced to the local transmitter."

It is not known if the couple had access to a car and they could have been using public transport.

Anyone who saw an 18 year old male with a 15 year old girl in the Marlborough area carrying sleeping bags or anyone who has seen a tent in the area, other than at Postern Hill camp site, is asked to contact Wiltshire police 0845 408 7000.

Teenagers found safe in Marlborough

Postby Daryl » Mon Apr 07, 2008 6:30 am

Teenagers found safe in Marlborough Retrieved from http://www.thisiswiltshire.co.uk/display.var.2174976.0.teenagers_found_safe_in_marlborough.php

Two teenagers who were missing overnight causing a huge search of one of the country's biggest forests were found safe and well this morning.

Members of Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) and police officers made up a search party of over 30 with five specially trained search dogs.

They searched Savernake Forest near Marlborough from 9.45pm last night until 4am and used the Wiltshire Police helicopter's loud hailer to appeal to the couple to contact their families.

The pair, a 15 year old gir and an 18 year olld boys from Swindon were found walking about in Marlborough this morning.

They were spotted walking out of a High Street shop by an alert police patrol.

Police said they would be questioning the pair to see where they had spent the night.

Officers said they had been concerned for the teenagers' welfare because of the low overnight temperatures.
