I don't want to discourage anybody yet I seem to remember that AXA underwrites some of the other policies that have turned us down?

Have finally got a reply from Dogtrust re Public Liability cover and sadly the answer is: "not while the dog is working"
Should I bother to ask more details? such as: what if we are waiting in a car park?

Zab,

i think Berkshire SAR Dogs's public liability will cover you when on a call ( i.e. when waiting in a car park which you are in because Berkshire SAR Dogs called you there) what is more relevant is will your insurer will cover you for any injury to the dog whilst SAR training or on an operation?

Interesting about Healthy Pets as they said wouldn't cover us for SAR work even though we had been a customer of them for many years insuring 7 dogs. Then on the next renewal the premiums went up by 200%!!.
BTW didn't renew my policies with them

No luck at the moment... Boss has emailed underwriters... Awaiting reply at the moment...

Right,

Having done some digging... I can update with the following...

At the moment, Healthy Pets won't cover the pet's whilst they're working, however, Sainsbury's, who are also underwritten by AXA will... (they cover the veterinary fee cover but not the 3rd part liability side, but i assume this is covered by the team's insurance)

I have done a comparison of Pepper, (10 year old border collie) between Sainsbury's and Healthy Pet's to see if it's worth me persuing this with AXA to see if they will extend there cover...

Basically, Sainsbury's is £36pm... Healthy Pets is £65pm... and even with a 10% discount that I may be able to get through work it just isn't worth it.

I am now looking to move Pep's cover from Direct Line (who my parents insure her with, and who will not cover her whilst working) to Sainsbury's...

Companies I have spoken to that don't cover them whilst working JFYI -

Pet Plan - Categorically no. Wouldn't even look into it any further.

MoreThan - Will only cover her if she only does 3-4 Training sessions/Shouts per year

Direct Line - Same as MoreThan

Found Sainsbury's and stopped there.

They offer a £7,500 maximum benefit policy, which is there top cover, and personally the one I would go for, which coveres each illness/accident up to £7,500, and does not cut off after 12 month's like a lot of policies do, so if she were to get arthritis, she would have up to £7,500 over the rest of her lifetime.

If people want me to persue AXA with regards to them allowing Healthy Pet's to cover dogs whilst there working I am happy to do so, but personally, with Sainsbury's offereing exactly the same policy, the same underwriters, and being half the price, I don't see the point!!

Just a quick update to the above...

Mum & Dad just phoned Direct Line to discuss individual premiums for all 3 of our dogs (they think theyre paying too much) and following me saying Pep wouldnt be covered for working... they checked with Direct Line, who immediately removed Pepper from the policy as they will not cover dogs that work at all. Even for non-working duties...

Maybe something worth checking... as if this is the case and you do claim, (and they find out that the dog is a working dog) it will invalidate the cover and you will have been paying premiums for nothing! (as Mum & Dad have just found out!)

Pep will now be insured through Sainsbury's
