This is a three part Quiz

1. What is the most widely spoken language in the world
2. How many languages are spoken in the world today roughly to the nearest 10
3. Now name them

I only know the answer to part 1.

Bull**** is the commonest language? Isn't it?

Otherwise it must be Spanish.

Nah, it's Chinese isn't it? Topical with the Olympics - if you are being picky, I'd say Manderin Chinese.

Number of languanges - pure guess at 3600

And they are ..... yeah right! [tongue]

Okay, I'll get serious.

In retrospect I'd agree with Judith and Michael on the first answer but given that there are lots of different cultures and dialects I reckon it's more like 7000, given the population of the world being around 6 billion (and 9 million bicycles in Beijing?), it's just a simple mathematical calculation based on the Standard deviation of a probability distribution of demographic data and exponential estimation of the mean and median in the third quartile.

Actually it's another guess.

And they are....yea right!
