Wiltshire Search and Rescue and Police Officers, were praised today, after playing a vital role in the location of a missing teenager.

Teams of police officers were deployed within minutes of the 16 year-old boy from the Pewsey area being reported missing, just after 7.30 pm last night. Police became increasingly concerned for the boyís welfare as he was believed to have taken a quantity of tablets and Wiltshire Search and Rescue were asked to join the search an hour later.

The boy was eventually located at approximately midnight in the Pewsey area and taken to Salisbury District Hospital where his condition was described as "stable".

Sector Inspector Ian Stevenson said: "We were very pleased to find this boy and get him to hospital. He was not dressed for the cold weather and we were very concerned for his well-being.

"Within minutes of his disappearance being reported to police, officers from Marlborough and Amesbury, supported by the police dog section and headquarters staff, had launched a carefully co-ordinated search response.

"We had to search a wide area, which included some difficult terrain and we could not have done so as quickly as we did without the invaluable support of members of Wiltshire Search and Rescue who also brought in the specialist dogs which were eventually responsible for locating the missing boy."

Steve Upton, Chairman of Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) said: "As well as our own dedicated team, we also used two air-sniffing dogs and their handlers from Lowland Search Dogs Sussex. We exercise with them on a regular basis and I knew we would need their expertise due to some of the areas we had to search being steep and heavily wooded.

"It was the two dogs that located the lad, who was fortunate to have been found as quickly as he was. We are all delighted with the happy outcome, which was aided by the efficient and effective working relationship between WILSAR and the Wiltshire Police which has built up over the last six years we have been in existence."
